Bring a Trailer Record Breaking 2025 Sales Day

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers!

Yesterday on Bring a Trailer, the market felt the ground shift. Over $6 million in sales moved across the platform—more than ten six-figure deals, each one a headline in its own right. While many platforms would celebrate a month like this, for BaT, it was just another Thursday.

That got me thinking about fees—those little numbers that add up big. Last year, BaT made a bold move, raising their buyer fee cap to $7,500, which is still a fraction of what live auction houses charge. The change was their first in a decade, and yet their ability to deliver value remains unparalleled. Think about it: live auctions might have a concierge feel, but BaT gives buyers something rare—a treasure trove of hundreds of knowledgeable comments on each listing. You can’t get that kind of depth standing next to a podium.

So what’s next? If I had to guess, I’m sure Hearst is already asking the same question: what’s the plan to increase revenue? Yes, they could list and sell more cars—no surprise there. We know they’re expanding into Europe. But the obvious one, to me anyway, is bumping that $7,500 cap. They’re charging way less than their competitors and still pulling in record numbers. It feels like low-hanging fruit—no extra coding, no major overhaul, just a small tweak that could yield significant returns.

Still, I don’t think we’ll see that happen in 2025. They waited over a decade to raise the cap last time. So unless there’s a major shift, it’s unlikely they’ll announce another increase so quickly. But 2026? That’s a different story, the timing could be right for another adjustment. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see how they play their next hand.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

1969 Ferrari Dino 206 GT $1m

2024 Lamborghini Revuelto $733,000

2023 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge $321,000

2024 Ferrari Roma Spider $302,000

Sale of the Day

As I wrote about yesterday the Dino auction was the one to watch. As it crossed the $1 million threshold it was absolutely exhilarating. In the final ten minutes, the bids shot up by over $200,000, with a knock-out bid sealing the deal at seven figures. This sets a new market benchmark for the 206 GT and will no doubt have collectors pondering whether their Dino might be next to reach those heights.

The cherry on top? The buyer’s inspiring story: “I grew up in a mobile home in Orlando, Florida, and worked my ass off my entire life for this.” That, my friends, is the American Dream on full display. This car’s jaw-dropping beauty and remarkable history make the $1 million price tag seem well-deserved. It’s proof that, sometimes, the best dreams really do come true.

Auctions To Keep An Eye On

The first-generation Toyota Sequoia often lives in the shadow of its older sibling, the Land Cruiser, but honestly, I think that’s what makes them such a great buy. Sure, this example has high mileage, but these SUVs are built to last and still have plenty of life left on the clock. With 4×4 capabilities, off-road modifications, and practical three-row seating, it’s a versatile vehicle that delivers value without the Land Cruiser’s premium price tag. Factor in the no-reserve auction, and you might just end up with a bargain.

This 2018 Range Rover Supercharged LWB is a vehicle many might overlook, but it’s a gem for those in the know. With just 68k miles, it has plenty of life left and offers unparalleled comfort and sophistication. The LWB model, with its extended wheelbase, takes luxury to another level—delivering a limo-like ride and spacious rear seating. This is no ordinary SUV; the combination of a supercharged V8 pumping out 518 horsepower, advanced Terrain Response 2 technology, and premium touches like soft-close doors and a Meridian surround sound system make it something special. And with no reserve, someone is poised to walk away with an incredible value.
