Ferrari 458 & Audi A4 Trends

The Daily Vroom

Happy Wednesday Vroomers,

Hey there! I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for all the amazing feedback I received on yesterday's post. Seriously, each and every one of you is appreciated! I've been going through all the comments from the polls and the suggestions you've sent in, and let me tell you, they've been incredibly helpful.

In fact, today I have something special for you. One of your many suggestions caught my eye, and I'll be showcasing some analysis on affordable cars that are popular across different platfroms.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

Hooray Hemmings sold a car yesterday . No Hemmings chat today – if you missed my thoughts on them you can read them here.

The real winners from yesterday were Cars & Bids who sold an impressive 25 out of the 30 cars they listed. They've proven once again to be the paragons of consistency in the online auction world. The achievement becomes even more noteworthy, considering the wavering performance of their contemporaries.

Hagerty, despite launching their auction platform nearly two months ago, is yet to pick up the pace. Much like Hemmings, they managed to secure only a single sale yesterday. They'll need to shift gears if they're to compete in this fast-paced market! ️

TOP 3 SALES OF THE DAY

NEARLY SALE OF THE DAY

️ 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series 1: An Auction Rollercoaster

A Classic Beauty Meets the Auction House!

Buckle up, car enthusiasts! We're about to delve into the fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled world of classic car auctions. Today's star? The exceptional 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series 1, an epitome of style, luxury, and timeless class. This iconic beauty, one of just 299 examples from the model's first series, is turning heads and raising paddles!

 The Bidding Ends…

Despite its rare pedigree and exquisite restoration, our Ferrari's recent foray into the auction world ended with a final bid of $519,000 on PCarMarket. Not bad at all, but hold on to your gears! A few months back, a similar model fetched $544,000 at a traditional auction house. In contrast, an online auction on BaT could only serve up to $376,000 and fell short of meeting the reserve. Talk about a volatile market!

 Seller's Hope vs Market's Reality?

There's a game of expectations being played here, with the market and the seller possibly on different lanes. The market has the steering wheel, and it appears to be taking a more conservative route than our ambitious seller might prefer.

More than Just a Ferrari…

Let's zoom in on the stellar history of the Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series 1! Born in 1961, it first hit the road in the Netherlands before making a transatlantic journey to the United States. Now sitting pretty in sunny San Jose, CA, it boasts a meticulous restoration journey worth over $580k! ️ (maybe that’s why the seller wanted more…)

 Glitz, Glamour & Power…

This timeless classic is a visual feast, featuring Superamerica-style chrome taillight housings, slim recessed headlight rings, 15" Borrani knock-off wire wheels, and a plush interior lined with red leather and Wilton blue-grey wool carpeting. A vintage Becker Grand Prix radio completes the vintage aesthetic. Under the hood, it's all about the roar of the 3.0-liter V12 Colombo engine!

 In a Nutshell…

The 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series 1 may not have reached the seller's ambitious expectations this time around, but it remains an iconic piece of automotive history. With its past performance in mind, who knows? The next auction could see it speeding past the finish line with a record bid!

LATE, LATE NIGHT EDIT (it’s midnight here in LA)

Exciting News From PCarMarket! This Gem is Now Sold!

It seems the dust has finally settled on this thrilling auction. It appears that following the auction, the highest bidder and seller managed to find common ground and strike a deal at a final price of $535,000. This aligns perfectly with my previous predictions and expectations. A hearty congratulations to all parties involved!

In the interest of full transparency, it would be beneficial to highlight this as 'Sold Post-Auction.' Not only does this inform potential future bidders about the transaction process, but it also demonstrates PCarMarket's commitment to going the extra mile to ensure a successful deal. It's a testament to their dedication and hustle!

AUCTION OF THE DAY

Hot on the Auction Block: The Legendary Daytona-Class-Winning 1965 Porsche 911 Coupe!

Here’s the link to the auction.

*A True Champion of its Time!* – This Signal Red stunner not only turns heads, but also ruled the racetrack, with victories at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, and podium finishes at the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona and the 1969 12 Hours of Sebring. Oh, did we mention? She's sitting pretty at a current bid of $301,709, which will go a lot higher (probably more now as I’m writing this Tuesday evening!)

Exterior Panache!  Bold in Signal Red, she's got the looks that kill! Born in 1965, this German belle is far from stock. Modified prior to her Daytona debut, she sports flared fenders and an external fuel-filler cap centred in the front hood. She was brought back to her original glory in the 2000s, wearing her factory shade of Signalrot (6407).

Interior and Mechanic Mastery!  Black Leatherette adorns the fixed-back bucket seats, while the rear seats were removed to make way for a solid, welded-in roll cage. Under the hood, a roaring 1,991cc Type 901/01 Flat-Six engine paired with Triple-Choke Weber Carburetors and a five-speed manual transaxle promises a ride like none other.

Stratford, Connecticut – Held by a dealer, this iconic piece of Porsche history comes complete with a copy of Kardex and trophies from its past victories. Can you hear the crowd cheering as you drive this piece of history home?

Tick Tock, The Clock's Ticking – This is not just an auction, it's your chance to own a piece of motor-racing history! Grab the wheel before the hammer falls! ️

The 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia

With Ferrari being top dog nearly every day in the online auction world. I wanted to focus on one of my favorite models, the 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia. ( I have a lot of favorites!)

It's an exquisite machine that stole my heart from the get-go, and today it snagged a jaw-dropping $196,500 on Cars & Bids.

I've looked at sales over the last two years to see if we can find any useful trends. What you’ll find is a treasure chest of ups, downs, twists and turns!

From $160,458 in March '21 to a respectable $167,500 in July '22, this Italian beauty was clearly more than just a pretty face – it was turning heads and dropping jaws in the online auction world. ⬆️

Then things got really exciting! In July '22, a 458 Italia crossed the finish line at a breathtaking $205,000, and in October of the same year, it reached its peak at an astounding $227,500. Talk about a full-throttle journey!

So what's the secret sauce? What gives the 458 Italia that extra oomph? Well, besides the incredible 4.5L V8 engine that roars to the tune of 562 horses, this stallion sprints from 0 to 60 in a mere 3.4 seconds. A symphony of speed and power, wouldn't you agree?

However, let's not overlook the less exhilarating moments. In October '22, a 458 Italia took a little stumble, fetching only $170,500. A little hiccup perhaps, echoing the uncertainty that often followed the unprecedented market surges during the Covid era? ‍♂️

Fast forward to 2023, the 458 Italia seems to have regained its footing. Selling for a solid $200,000 in January and $196,500 today, it's safe to say that the love for this Italian stallion hasn't waned one bit. ️
