MARKET LEADERBOARD

I wanted to provide you with an update on the latest numbers and clarify a small error from yesterday’s newsletter. Wednesday, Cars & Bids achieved an impressive sell-through rate of 85%, which is consistent with their performance yesterday.
However, it seems that Bring A Trailer might be slightly disappointed with their recent numbers. While they are market leaders, they were initially on track to reach 100 sales per day and maintained a consistent sell-through rate in the 80s. Currently, Cars & Bids is matching them neck & neck in terms of the highest sell-through rate. Being owned by the powerful Hearst group, I can only imagine they will not like being 2nd in any department.
Additionally, I have some serious concerns about Collecting Cars. Despite their sizable operation and the addition of the buy-it-now section, their sale numbers are struggling. I hope they can get those numbers back up soon. Unsurprisingly I do have some suggestions for them, but for now I’ll keep schtum and let them get on with improving their sales, good luck.
On the other hand, Car & Classic seems to be faring relatively better in comparison. This raises the question of whether there is room in the European market for more players. Bonhams|Cars Online, for instance, hasn't made significant waves with their online offering, and the upcoming launch of PistonHeads could introduce further competition.
It's an ever-evolving market, and we'll continue to keep a close eye on these developments. Stay tuned for more updates!

UPDATES FROM YESTERDAY
Yesterday I highlighted this 2017 Ariel Nomad Tactical that was up for auction. As a follow up you’ll be glad to know that it did sell for a very decent price of $105,000.

My next update is regarding Hagerty. If you read yesterday’s post you’ll know that I was extremely positive about their outlook going forward.
I ran a poll asking if you think Hagerty has got the juice to become a big shot in this market & the results are in…
66% of you believe they do. In fact I got so many replies I want to feature a few of them here. Apologies if I don’t include your feedback.
Now, moving on to some feedback for Hagerty, there are a few things that I believe they should consider changing. To illustrate my points, I have some screenshots to share with you. Here is the auction I’m referring to, although it could be any of their auctions.
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Let's talk about the sale price of this particular car. The highest and final bid was $23,000, which is the actual price the car sold for.
However, there seems to be some confusion with Hagerty, as they show the sale price as $24,610. The reason behind this discrepancy is that Hagerty includes the buyer premium in the price, which artificially inflates the sale price. Personally, I find this approach a 'bit misleading.
There could be those of you who might say that a higher sales price would look more attractive to potential sellers who are thinking of listing their cars with Hagerty.
There are also those of you who could say a higher sale price could lead to higher insurance premiums, of which Hagerty could be the recipient. This is not what I’m saying, just what others MIGHT say.
Interestingly, other platforms do not include the buyer premium in the "sold" price, so it raises the question: why does Hagerty choose to do so?
