The Daily Vroom

Hey there, Vroomers!
I've got something exciting for you today – a deep dive into Cars & Bids over the last two months. It's been quite a journey putting all this information together, but I hope you'll find it super useful! Feel free to share your thoughts with me through the polls I've added. After all, I just want to provide you with the best insights and trends. So, let's dive in and have some fun with this!

MARKET LEADERBOARD
Before we get to the main event, let's take a peek at yesterday's sold cars and sell-through rates for some of the top auction websites.

Once again, Bring A Trailer outperformed the other four competitors on the leaderboard combined, selling a remarkable $4.3 million worth of cars yesterday. However, despite their impressive results, they believe they can achieve even greater success. Two months ago, they seemed poised to reach a daily sales milestone of 100 cars, but in the past month, their numbers have fallen short, not even reaching 90 cars sold in a given day. The question now remains whether they will be able to achieve the coveted target of selling 100 cars in a single day.
On the other hand, Cars & Bids has been excelling in terms of their sell-through rate, consistently hitting an impressive 80% or more every single day. In terms of the value of cars sold, they managed to achieve $865,000 in sales yesterday. Nonetheless, the significant challenge for them lies in increasing their daily sales volume to surpass the mark of 30 cars sold a day.
As always if you don’t see the name of a platform on the leaderboard it’s not because I’m not tracking their sales it’s because they sold less than 5 cars with some selling 0 cars!!

Follow Up On Gorbachev’s Limousine Sale

Yesterday I highlighted the auction of this 1985 ZiL 41045 Limousine that once belonged to former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev. The car did indeed sell, and the price was a massive $140,000
What a deal for the seller and no doubt the buyer is also ecstatic.

CARS & BIDS ANALYSIS
Let's take a closer look at Cars & Bids' performance over the last couple of months! I dug into their sales data from June until yesterday to find some fascinating insights and trends that I hope will pique your interest.
Just a heads up, there's going to be a bunch of charts coming your way, but trust me, they're the best way to showcase the exciting trends we're on the lookout for. So, get ready for a data-filled ride! Let's dive in and uncover some cool stuff together!
Before we get to a chart here is some of the raw data:
-
The average year of the cars sold is 2005, which means on average, the cars being sold are approximately 18 years old.
-
The youngest car sold was from the year 2023.
-
The oldest car sold was from the year 1982.
-
25% of cars sold are from the year 1999 or earlier.
-
50% of cars sold (the median) are from the year 2006 or earlier.
-
75% of cars sold are from the year 2013 or earlier.

A word cloud (below) is a visual representation of text data where the size of each word indicates its frequency or importance. In this case, the larger the car make appears in the word cloud, the more frequently it was sold on Cars and Bids platform.
I personally love a word cloud, as it not only shows me the most popular makes, but I enjoy looking closer at the image to see some of the smaller makes. Maybe it can help you with the quiz question above

For those closely following Cars & Bids, it's no surprise that certain brands, like Rivian, consistently dominate the top three spots with their high-selling prices. In the sections below, we'll dive deeper into these brands to explore how their pricing has averaged out over the past two months. Get ready for some fascinating findings!

Let's take a break from the bar chart and shift our focus to examining some averages over the last two months. First on the list is the average sale price of all cars, which has shown quite a fluctuating trend during this period.

This got me wondering: does the transmission type have an overall impact on the average price of the car? Curious to find out, I delved into the data and here's what I discovered.

Next, I'm curious to explore the average sale prices of cars from different production years. As far as I know, Cars & Bids typically doesn't deal with vehicles manufactured before 1980. However, yesterday's top 3 sales (see above) interestingly featured a couple of cars from the 1950s and 1960s. I'm left wondering whether Cars & Bids might expand their portfolio to include older cars, potentially breaking through their current sales limit of 30 cars per day.

It’s time to get really specific and analyze three of the most popular models sold on Cars & Bids. Our first pit stop is at Porsche.

Not a surprise that the 911 is the most popular Porsche model sold. But did you know that Boxter would be 2nd?

I thought long and hard about whether or not to include this diagram as is, cos it kind of looks messy. But in the end I thought it would be useful for you to compare the average prices for the top few Porsche models.

Monday was the popular day for Porsche sales, for BMW it’s the opposite being the least popular!

Who knew that Cars & Bids sold so many different models of BMW??

Rather than compare all the models, I’ve chosen the three most popular. I’ve also tweaked the diagram over the Porsche version.

Interestingly not a single Rivian was sold on a Monday, I wonder why?

The price trend appears to be generally decreasing, indicating that the selling price of Rivian vehicles has been falling over time. Let’s keep an eye on this one going forward to see if this trend continues.

I could keep delving into more models, but I believe I've provided you with plenty to feast your eyes upon for now. Perhaps, in the future, there might be a premium version that allows for even deeper dives . But for now, let's wrap up with the final two charts showcasing some overall averages, rather than being specific to any particular model or make.
One thing that caught my attention is the observation that Tuesday doesn't seem to be the best day for sales on Cars & Bids. I wonder if this pattern holds true for other platforms as well? (to be continued…)

Our final chart is a histogram. This presents the distribution of the manufacture years of cars sold and give you a visual representation of which years sold the best in this time period.

SMASHED CAR OF THE DAY
This 2018 Lamborghini Aventador didn’t have the best of days. Luckily and miraculously the driver walked away with minor injuries!
