Inside Scoop: The Real Story of Last Week’s Car Auction

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

A massive thank you goes out to everyone who joined our community over the weekend. I can assure you that you've stepped into a world filled with intriguing statistics, insights, emerging trends, and so much more. I'm thrilled to have you here with us!

Time to crunch some numbers right off the bat! Last week, online auction car sales hovered near the $36 million mark. Interestingly, we've seen this figure maintain a steady pace for several months, without crossing the elusive $40 million milestone. A glance at the figures below suggests that we might not quite hit the $40 million threshold this week either. Let's delve deeper into the data.

Here’s what we’re covering in today’s issue:

Listings this week – I’ve crunched the numbers for your pleasure

Sales last week – who’s up and who’s down

Chevrolet pickups – top 5 sales of last week

Some great cars up for auction

LISTINGS THIS WEEK

Your curiosity has spoken loud and clear! I've received a flurry of inquiries about the total number of cars listed on various platforms compared to the ones that actually sell. While it seems that sell-through rates have caught your interest, many of you also wish to peek at the raw listing numbers.

So, without further ado, let's unveil the listing numbers for this week. Regrettably, many platforms prefer to remain mum about these figures once an auction concludes, choosing to showcase only their successful sales. But as avid readers of this space, you have a privileged access to all these figures.

What has struck me this week, though, is the observable decline in listing numbers across the board. Is it vacation season in full swing, or is there a different story at play? Let's delve deeper together!

If you don’t see your favorite site in the table above, it’s becuae their listing numbers are extrrmely low.

SALES LAST WEEK

Despite witnessing the sale of some truly remarkable cars last week, the overall figures took quite a dip compared to the previous week. Hemmings was the only exception, recording a substantial surge in sales. However, given their modest footprint in the market, this uptick isn't drastically affecting the big picture.

As highlighted earlier, with this week's listing numbers even further in decline, I'm not optimistic about sales numbers bouncing back or even maintaining their current standing. Keep your eyes peeled though – I'll be bringing you those sale numbers on the daily. So, stay locked in, Vroomers!

CHEVROLET PICKUP SALES LAST WEEK

Being an avid fan of Chevy pickups , their transformative journey captivates me. From their birth in the 20th century, these American icons have evolved spectacularly. I have a soft spot for the 1950s models, with their trend-setting designs . But it's the '60s and '70s that really do it for me – that blend of power, comfort, and, believe it or not, a touch of luxury! The story of Chevy pickups is a thrilling ride through automotive history..

1957 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup – $61,500

Let's fire up the time machine and travel back to 1957 with the Chevrolet 3100 Pickup. This beauty represents the final year of Chevy's "Advanced Design" series, which was a revolutionary shift towards more comfortable and stylish trucks after WWII.

A cool fact about the 1957 model? It introduced a significant design tweak that still catches the eye today – an open grille design replacing the previous "bull-nose" grille, giving the truck a more modern and appealing look.

But the updates weren't just skin-deep. The '57 models were also the first to offer a 12-volt electrical system, a huge advancement over the 6-volt systems of the past, providing better starting, improved headlights, and the capacity to handle air conditioning and other modern accessories.

This combination of timeless style and innovative features made the 1957 Chevrolet 3100 a highly desirable model among vintage truck enthusiasts. So, it's no surprise that it recently commanded a premium at auction, selling for an impressive $61,500!

1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup – $32,000

Step back into the mid-1950s with the vintage 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup, one of the most distinctive and stylish models in Chevy's truck lineup. Its popularity can be attributed to Chevrolet's first-ever "wraparound" windshield – a revolutionary design that was considered cutting-edge at the time. Did you know that the 1955 3100 series was also affectionately known as the "second series" as they marked a major overhaul from the earlier models? This classic beauty recently found a new home for $32,000.

The '68 C20 was among the first pickup trucks that began to blend utility with comfort, offering options such as power steering and power brakes. This hardworking, vintage beast was snagged for $14,250.
