Ex-King of Sweden’s 1987 BMW M5 – The Royal Results Are In!

In my post here two days ago I wrote about the unique BMW M5 that was up for auction. The auction is now over and here’s my take on the auction.

Sold for $140,000 Details here.

The Ex-King of Sweden’s 1987 BMW M5 just made a royal exit from the market, selling for a majestic $140,000 on BaT! This unique and extraordinary ride wasn’t just a symbol of royalty but a true collector’s piece.

Why the Premium Price?  In my opinion, it’s the 1-of-1 features, super rare color, and low mileage that set this M5 apart:

  • Malachite Green Metallic Paint (Super Rare Color)

  • Gold-Painted 16″ BBS RS Wheels

  • Blaupunkt Sound System

  • Additional Antennas and VHF Scanner

  • Low Mileage (~157k Miles) ️

These rare and distinctive options truly justify the price above the ‘regular’ market value for a ’77 M5. It’s not just the car’s royal lineage but its unique character and exclusivity that made it a remarkable find.

A Royal Collectible:  With such a rich history, unmatched style, and specific attributes like the Malachite Green Metallic paint, this BMW M5 is more than just a car; it’s a symbol of automotive excellence, a piece of history, and now a prized possession for its new owner.

MAY-AUGUST PONTIAC GTO SALES

It’s impossible to be human and not love the Pontiac GTO

My Love for the Pontiac GTO

As a car enthusiast, I can’t help but express my admiration for the Pontiac GTO, a true American muscle car icon. The GTO represents a bygone era of raw power, aggressive styling, and pure driving pleasure.

The Birth of Cool

The Pontiac GTO was born in 1964 and quickly became the symbol of coolness in the muscle car world. Its name, “GTO,” stands for Gran Turismo Omologato, and it was designed to bring race-inspired performance to the streets. The roar of its engine, the sleek lines, and its commanding presence made it a favorite among car lovers, myself included.

Different Models and My Favorite One ❤️

Over the years, Pontiac produced several models of the GTO, ranging from the classic ’60s models to the more modern versions in the early 2000s. My personal favorite has to be the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Coupe. The bold design, coupled with a powerful engine, makes it a timeless masterpiece. It’s no surprise that in the recent sales data, this particular model was sold for a whopping $76,000!

The GTO Sales Trend

Speaking of sales, the data I analyzed reveals a fascinating trend. The vintage models, particularly from 1965 to 1969, are highly sought after, with the majority of sales occurring on the “Bring A Trailer” platform. Manual transmission seems to be the preference, adding to the raw driving experience that the GTO offers.

Why It Ended

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The Pontiac GTO’s production ceased in 2006. Factors such as stricter emission regulations, changing consumer preferences, and economic challenges contributed to its demise.

The Legacy Lives On

Despite its end, the legacy of the Pontiac GTO lives on. It continues to be a symbol of American automotive culture and a prized possession for collectors and enthusiasts like me. The sales data confirms its enduring appeal, with a healthy price range and demand for various models and years.

Conclusion

The Pontiac GTO is more than just a car; it’s a piece of automotive history, a symbol of an era, and a personal favorite of mine. Its unique blend of performance, style, and nostalgia ensures that it will remain a cherished icon for generations to come. The recent sales reflect its timeless appeal, and I can only hope to one day own a piece of this legendary muscle car.

Let’s get to the juicy details and analyze the sales over the last 3 months.

General Statistics

  • Average Price: $43,818.95

  • Price Range: From $14,767 to $76,000

  • Average Year: 1979 (ranging from 1965 to 2006)

  • Most Sold Platform: Bring A Trailer (17 out of 22 sales)

First up are the top 10 sales.

It’s pretty much an open and shut case that BaT is the platform to list and buy your Pontiac GTO. Maybe you’ll find a bargain on another platform if you go searching…

Behind the Bid: Sale of the Day

2005 Ford GT Overview

This 2005 Ford GT, a marvel of American engineering, was finished in Centennial White with an Ebony interior. It boasts just 2,600 miles on the odometer and is driven by a robust 5.4L supercharged V8 engine, delivering 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transaxle.

This particular GT was recently reviewed by Doug DeMuro and detailed by Larry Kosilla from AMMO NYC. It’s unmodified and touts a clean, accident-free Carfax report. The GT has two options: the McIntosh stereo and painted stripes. Its recent service history includes engine oil and filter change, wheels refinishing, valve cover gaskets, oxygen sensor, and fuel filter replacement in June 2023.

Exterior and Interior Highlights

  • Exterior: Centennial White color, painted racing stripes, 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, Brembo braking system, HID headlights, and fog lights.

  • Interior: Ebony leather upholstery, carbon fiber seats, tilting steering column, air conditioning, and a McIntosh CD player.

  • Known Flaws: Some wear on the driver’s seat’s outer bolsters.

Historical Significance

Inspired by the Le Mans-winning GT40, the Ford GT represented America in the supercar segment, rekindling its rivalry with Ferrari in 2005. This limited-production coupe, with around 4,000 units built, is one of Ford’s most iconic models.

“Sold After” Process on Cars & Bids

The “Sold After” process is a notable feature of Cars & Bids, adding an extra dimension to the auction landscape. Here’s an in-depth look at how it usually unfolds:

  1. Email to the Highest Bidder: Immediately after the auction ends, Cars & Bids reaches out to the highest bidder via email to inquire about their final price. While email is the initial mode of communication, the process may evolve.

  2. Negotiation with the Seller: The seller might respond with their own price, leading to a bit of back-and-forth negotiation. This could be through email, but it’s not uncommon for the conversation to shift to a phone call, allowing for a more personal and direct negotiation.

  3. Platform Intervention: The platform may become actively involved, and in a gesture of goodwill to keep the deal on track, they might even offer to reduce some of their fees. In a high-stakes sale, like the one involving the 2005 Ford GT, where the max fee is $4500, throwing in $1000 or another amount might make the critical difference.

  4. Closing the Deal: With all parties in agreement, the deal is finalized, and the “Sold After” status is updated on the site.

As someone deeply invested in both data analytics and automotive passion, I find the absence of the final sale price in the ‘Sold After’ process to be a missing piece of the puzzle.

Without this information, I’m unable to provide a fully comprehensive analysis of market trends and insights. While the ‘Sold After’ feature adds a fascinating layer to the auction process, the lack of the final sale price means that a small but statistically significant number of sales each month remain unaccounted for in our analysis.
